The National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) has posted a federal grant notice for the Tribal Colleges Research Grants Program. This program aims to assist 1994 Land-Grant Institutions (Tribal Colleges) in enhancing their institutional research capacity through applied projects that address student educational needs and community, reservation, or regional challenges. The grants will be awarded through a competitive review process.
To be eligible for this grant, Tribal Colleges or Universities designated as 1994s under the Equity Educational Land-Grant Status Act of 1994 must apply. The eligible 1994s are listed in the grant notice. Award recipients may subcontract to organizations not eligible to apply if they are necessary for the project.
The grant program requires collaboration with 1862 or 1890 Land-Grant Institutions, the USDA Agricultural Research Service (ARS), a Non-Land-Grant College of Agriculture (NLGCA), or at least one forestry school funded under the McIntire-Stennis Cooperative Forestry Research Program.
Projects in any discipline of the food, agricultural, or natural resource sciences can be proposed by eligible institutions. The grant program has an estimated total funding of $7,200,000, with an expected number of 11 awards. The award ceiling is $2,500,000, and the award floor is $150,000.
The deadline for applications is December 31, 2024. For more information and to access the application, interested parties can visit the additional information URL provided in the grant notice.
If you have any questions regarding the application content, you can contact NIFA Support during business hours, Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. ET, except federal holidays. The contact email is grantapplicationquestions@usda.gov.
Please note that the grant notice also mentions that there are no restrictions on the number of applications that an eligible institution may submit for the FY 2024 program.
