The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has announced a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the R34 Clinical Trial Optional grant titled "Suicide Prevention Across the Life Span in Low- and Middle-Income Countries." This initiative aims to support formative research and pilot testing of culturally sensitive interventions designed to identify and mitigate suicidal ideation and behavior (SIB) as well as non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). Given that approximately 77% of global suicides occur in LMICs, this funding is critical for developing effective, context-specific strategies to address this public health crisis while also building local research capacity. The total funding available is $2 million, with an expected eight awards of up to $225,000 annually over three years. Interested applicants can find more information and contact NIH Grants Information at grantsinfo@nih.gov, with proposals due by October 24, 2024.
