The General Services Administration (GSA), in collaboration with the Department of Energy (DOE), seeks information from vendors for its Center for Emerging Building Technologies. This program aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase sustainability in federal buildings through the evaluation of emerging technologies.
The focus is on innovative solutions for energy-efficient commercial buildings and vehicle fleets. Specifically, GSA is interested in technologies related to deep energy retrofits, all-electric operations, healthy and resilient buildings, low-embodied carbon materials, and net-zero energy. Vendors are invited to propose ready-to-deploy innovations that can be practically tested and verified in occupied federal buildings.
The selected technologies will undergo rigorous third-party evaluation in various climate zones, assessing their real-world performance and potential for broader adoption. This process aims to generate credible performance data to benefit facility owners, operators, and financiers.
Vendors are required to submit detailed applications showcasing their technologies' commercial and technical readiness, performance validation, and commercialization potential. The application process is comprehensive, requiring responses to specific questions about energy retrofits, building envelopes, ease of use, and expected payback periods.
This Request for Information (RFI) is a planning tool to shape GSA's future technology initiatives. Responses, due by September 13, 2024, will help identify promising sustainable building technologies for potential inclusion in GSA and DOE programs. It's emphasized that this RFI doesn't constitute a commitment to issue a formal Request for Proposal.
