Special Notice: NATIONAL AERONAUTICS AND SPACE ADMINISTRATION is seeking inquiries from companies interested in obtaining license rights to commercialize, manufacture, and market a technology related to analyzing thermographic data acquired during Automated Fiber Placement (AFP). AFP machines can be susceptible to tow-tape defects, which can reduce strength between 7% and 32%. The technology being offered uses the latent heat of the item under fabrication to create a thermal image of a just completed tape bond. This image is then analyzed in real-time to detect anomalies and guide the bonding operation. Interested parties can submit a license application through NASA's Automated Technology Licensing Application System (ATLAS). No funding is provided by NASA in conjunction with these potential licenses. For more information and to express interest, visit the provided links.
