The Department of Defense, through the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), intends to award a sole-source contract to the National Nuclear Center (NNC) of Kazakhstan for Project Shanyrak, which focuses on nuclear material security and infrastructure remediation at the Semipalatinsk Test Site (STS). The project aims to ensure the secure management and elimination of nuclear materials, while also sustaining prior investments in physical and technical security systems, thereby supporting U.S. Government mission objectives in nuclear security. This contract is critical for maintaining long-term security at STS and is expected to span a minimum of five years, with the Government planning to post a Justification and Approval (J&A) document within 14 days of the contract award.
