The Department of Defense (DOD) is seeking proposals for a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I project titled "Test Noise Reduction / Energy Capture Study". The research topic focuses on the development of potential solutions for noise reduction and energy recapture in future engine test cell designs. The goal is to comply with the Air Force's objective of achieving 100% carbon-free electricity by 2030. The project will involve evaluating jet engine test energy recapturing and noise reduction through computer modeling and a developed subscale physical model. The project duration is 24 months, and the deliverables include a documented Analysis of Alternatives, noise measurements in decibels (db), and final electrical recapture in watts. The Phase II project will demonstrate a feasibility plan, implementation plan, and a functional physical sub-scale model. The Phase III project aims to integrate design elements into the Agile Common Engine Test Cell (ACETC) construction projection. The technology and research have potential applications in the commercial industry, especially for new construction opportunities.
