The Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) is offering a fiscal year 2024 Legal Assistance for Victims grant. This grant aims to increase the availability of civil and criminal legal assistance for victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking. The grant provides funds for comprehensive direct legal services to victims in legal matters related to or arising from the abuse or violence they have experienced.
The grant covers a wide range of legal assistance, including family, tribal, territorial, immigration, employment, administrative agency, housing matters, campus administrative or protection order proceedings, and other similar matters. It also includes criminal justice investigations, prosecutions, and post-trial matters that impact the victim's safety and privacy. Additionally, alternative dispute resolution, restorative practices, or other processes intended to promote victim safety, privacy, and autonomy are covered. The grant also supports post-conviction relief proceedings in state, local, Tribal, or territorial court where the conviction of a victim is related to or arising from domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, or sex trafficking.
Eligible applicants for this grant include private nonprofit entities, publicly funded organizations not acting in a governmental capacity, territorial organizations, Indian tribal governments, and tribal organizations in the United States or U.S. territories. The grant does not require cost sharing or matching.
The total program funding for this grant is $31,800,000, with an award ceiling of $900,000 and an award floor of $600,000. It is expected that 45 awards will be granted. The closing date for applications is February 13, 2024.
