The Advanced Research Projects Agency – Energy (ARPA-E), part of the U.S. Department of Energy, has announced a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) titled "Catalyzing Innovative Research for Circular Use of Long-Lived Advanced Rechargeables SBIR/STTR (CIRCULAR SBIR/STTR)." This initiative aims to promote innovative research for creating a circular supply chain for electric vehicle (EV) batteries, focusing on maximizing the manufacturing value from used batteries and addressing challenges related to battery disposal and recycling. The program is critical for advancing sustainable energy storage technologies, which are essential for the transition to cleaner transportation and energy independence in the U.S. Approximately $30 million in funding is available, with individual awards ranging from $500,000 to $5 million.
