The Department of Defense, specifically the Department of the Army, has issued a Request for Information (RFI) for the provision of 100-500 Screening Obscuration Modules (SOMs) designed to create visual obscuration effects that degrade visibility in the near-infrared spectrum. These modules operate by vaporizing fog oil or diesel through a mini turbine engine’s hot exhaust, generating an obscuration cloud capable of covering a distance of 204 meters and lasting up to 12 minutes without resupply. This RFI is part of the Army's market research efforts to gather information for potential future procurement of obscuration equipment, and interested firms are invited to submit their capability statements and company information by March 3, 2025.
