NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center is preparing to issue a Draft Request for Proposal (RFP) for the Near Earth Orbit Network (NEON) Program’s Sounder for Microwave-Based Applications (SMBA) Instrument. The procurement involves the design, development, and support of 12 SMBA flight models, one Engineering Test Unit, and associated Ground Support Equipment (GSE) to enhance atmospheric temperature and moisture profiling for weather forecasting and monitoring. This initiative is crucial for advancing satellite-based atmospheric observation capabilities, with a risk classification of Class C. The anticipated release dates for the Draft RFP and Final RFP are the end of the first and second quarters of 2025, respectively, with proposals due approximately 30 days after the Final RFP. Interested parties should direct all inquiries to Bruce Tsai at Bruce.B.Tsai@nasa.gov or Jerry Edmond at jerry.edmond-1@nasa.gov.
