The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is seeking feedback and interest from potential local and international organizations for its new biodiversity conservation initiative titled "Healthy Ecosystems and Resilient Thriving Societies (HEARTS)" in Uganda. The initiative aims to enhance biodiversity conservation while improving community well-being and ensuring long-term environmental sustainability, with specific objectives including consolidating conservation enterprises, enhancing policy and institutional capacity, promoting sustainable practices, and increasing awareness of biodiversity's value. Given that approximately 85% of Uganda's population relies on biodiversity for their livelihoods, this initiative addresses critical challenges such as habitat loss, wildlife crime, and human-wildlife conflicts. Interested parties are encouraged to submit their responses by January 3, 2024, using a provided template, and can direct inquiries to Mercy Lapolo at mlapolo@usaid.gov or Andreea Surdu at asurdu@usaid.gov. Feedback from this RFI may inform future Requests for Proposals (RFPs), with an industry day anticipated for late January 2025.
