Description

The Department of Defense (DOD) is seeking proposals for the topic "Shipboard Proof Testing Apparatus for Field-Expedient Parts" as part of their SBIR 24.1 BAA program. The objective of this solicitation is to develop testing equipment for the shipboard environment that enables proof testing of field-expedient parts fabricated onboard. The Navy is looking to reduce the risk of installing inadequate parts by implementing a capability for proof testing designed parts at the point-of-need. The solution should be modular and able to test non-uniform objects, tools, and parts under different loading conditions and scenarios. It should also be able to withstand ship motion, vibration, shock, ventilation, and electromagnetic interference. The proposed solution should be easy to use, provide clear and easy-to-understand results, and have on-board processing capability. The project will have a Phase I for conceptual design and feasibility analysis, a Phase II for building and delivering a prototype system, and a Phase III for transitioning the production-ready machinery optimized for Navy expeditionary environments. The solution has potential applications beyond the shipboard community, including local maintenance activities, shipyards, and other military forward operating bases, as well as commercial industries such as shipping and oil and gas. The solicitation is closed, and more information can be found on the DOD SBIR website.

Active
Department of Defense
The Department of Defense (DOD) is seeking proposals for a water tester at the point of need. The objective of this solicitation is to develop applied research for an innovative capability to improve water surveillance in field conditions. The goal is to create a rugged and compact field instrument that can provide microbiological and metal detection capabilities to reduce health risks to personnel. The water tester should be able to analyze for total coliforms, Escherichia coli, arsenic, lead, copper, and cyanide, providing rapid results within 4 hours. The equipment must be compact, durable, and able to fit in carry-on luggage, weighing no more than 25 pounds. The project will be conducted in two phases: Phase I involves a feasibility study, and Phase II focuses on developing and demonstrating a prototype system. The potential applications of this technology include military use, environmental programs, emergency response teams, and other federal directorates. The deadline for proposal submission is March 31, 2025. For more information, visit the solicitation link: [here](https://www.sbir.gov/node/2484467).

The Department of Defense (DOD) is seeking proposals for the development of a water tester at the point of need. The objective of this research topic is to improve water surveillance by developing a rugged and compact field instrument capable of providing microbiological and metal detection capabilities. The goal is to reduce both short- and long-term health risks to personnel. The water tester should be able to analyze for total coliforms, Escherichia coli, arsenic, lead, copper, and cyanide, providing rapid results in less than 4 hours. The equipment must be compact, durable, and able to fit in a carry-on piece of luggage, weighing no more than 25 pounds. The project will be conducted in two phases: Phase I involves a feasibility study, while Phase II focuses on developing and demonstrating a prototype system. The potential applications of this technology include military use for Special Operations Forces and conventional forces, as well as environmental programs, emergency response teams, and other federal directorates. The project duration is not specified, but the solicitation is open until March 31, 2025. For more information, visit the DOD SBIR 24.4 Annual solicitation on grants.gov.

Active
Department of Defense
The Department of Defense (DOD) is seeking proposals for the NAVAIR Open Topic for Advanced Robotic Automation for Fleet Readiness Center Industrial Processes. The objective of this solicitation is to advance the automation of industrial processes within Fleet Readiness Centers (FRCs) to enhance efficiency, quality, safety, pollution prevention, and productivity through the integration of advanced robotic technologies. The technology areas of interest include advanced robotic systems integration for aircraft maintenance and repair, human-robot collaboration and safety in aviation MRO, and emerging technologies for autonomous aviation maintenance. Phase I proposals must include a base and option period of performance, with a total cost not to exceed $75,000 for the base and $100,000 for the option. Phase II will focus on hardening, ruggedizing, and/or marinizing the technology for integration into an operational environment, with the outcome being a working prototype. Phase III will involve deploying advanced robotic automation solutions tailored to FRC industrial processes and providing logistics support. The solicitation is open until March 31, 2025. Active
Department of Defense
The Department of Defense (DOD) is seeking proposals for a research topic titled "Multisystem Mobile Corrosion Unit" as part of their SBIR program. The objective of this topic is to develop a deployable solution for the Army's major corrosion issue, allowing for repairs in austere environments while in the field. The solution should include capabilities such as laser ablation, corrosion preventative coating application, cold spray, plasma blast, welding, and more. The project will consist of two phases, with Phase I accepting proposals for up to $250,000 for a 6-month period to develop a proof-of-concept prototype. Phase II will involve developing a deployment-ready multisystem corrosion unit. The technology has potential applications in industries such as automotive, aircraft, construction, agriculture, and power and energy. The project duration is not specified, and interested parties can find more information and submit proposals on the DOD SBIR website.
DOD SBIR 24.4 Annual - Advanced Manufacturing for Common Launch Container
Active
Department of Defense
The Department of Defense (DOD) is seeking proposals for the topic of "Advanced Manufacturing for Common Launch Container" as part of the SBIR 24.4 Annual solicitation. The objective of this topic is to develop applied research towards an innovative capability to use advanced manufacturing and iterative design to enable a Common Launch Container to meet military specification requirements for storage, transportation, and munition launch. The technology within this topic is restricted under the International Traffic in Arms Regulation (ITAR), and offerors must disclose any proposed use of foreign nationals and their country of origin. The research should address the development of an iterative design process and advanced manufacturing to design and validate a munition container for transportation, storage, and launch. The system should be designed to launch the munition at 12-18 feet per second from the pallet on the cargo ramp or pallet in free flight after cargo drop. The feasibility study in Phase I should investigate all options that meet or exceed the minimum performance parameters specified and recommend the option that best achieves the objective. Phase II involves developing, installing, and demonstrating a prototype system on a SOCOM aircraft. The system could have broad military applications where rapid iteration and production are needed, and it may be selected for production or follow-on iterations for future applications. The project duration is not specified, but the solicitation is open until March 31, 2025. More details and the application process can be found on the DOD SBIR 24.4 topic page.
