The Department of Defense (DoD) is seeking proposals for the topic "Commercial Technologies for EMP Hardening and Electrical System Protection" as part of the SBIR 23.3 BAA. The Air Force is the specific branch responsible for this solicitation. The objective of this effort is to create a robust and resilient nation that is well-prepared to face electromagnetic pulse (EMP) threats, protecting its citizens, critical infrastructure, and military capabilities. The solicitation is interested in commercial solutions that address five key areas: advanced EMP shielding and hardening technologies, resilient power grid and energy infrastructure, rapid detection and monitoring of EMP events, EMP-protected communication networks and data centers, and EMP risk assessment and mitigation strategies. The successful completion and integration of the projects would lead to enhanced EMP protection, resilient power grid and energy infrastructure, rapid response capabilities, secure communication networks and data centers, and proactive risk management. The solicitation is open to Phase I and Phase II proposals, with Phase III focusing on transitioning the developed technology into commercial and government applications. The deadline for proposal submission is October 18, 2023. For more information, visit the DoD SBIR 23.3 BAA on grants.gov or the Defense SBIR/STTR website.
