Description

The Farmers Market Promotion Program Fiscal Year 2024, offered by the Agricultural Marketing Service, is a grant opportunity aimed at developing, coordinating, and expanding direct producer-to-consumer markets. This program seeks to increase access to and availability of locally and regionally produced agricultural products.

The grant focuses on supporting and promoting domestic direct producer-to-consumer marketing, such as farmers markets, roadside stands, agritourism activities, community-supported agriculture (CSA) programs, or online sales. It also encourages the development of value-added agricultural products and marketing strategies for producers of local food and value-added products.

Additionally, the program aims to facilitate regional food chain coordination development, promote new business opportunities and marketing strategies to reduce on-farm food waste, and respond to changing technology needs in direct producer-to-consumer marketing. It also covers expenses related to obtaining food safety certification and improvements to food safety practices and equipment.

The grant has an estimated total program funding of $10,500,000, with an expected number of 150 awards. The award ceiling is $500,000, while the award floor is $50,000. The grant requires cost sharing or matching.

Assisting Specialist Crop Exports: Provision of MRL Information
Active
Foreign Agricultural Service
The Foreign Agricultural Service is offering a grant opportunity titled "Assisting Specialist Crop Exports: Provision of MRL Information". This grant aims to address the unique barriers faced by U.S. specialty crop producers in exporting their high-value products to international markets. Specialty crops, including fruits, nuts, herbs, and vegetables, are disproportionately affected by maximum residue limit (MRL) related trade barriers, such as residue tolerances of pesticides, fungicides, and herbicides. These trade barriers arise due to differences among registration systems, monitoring and inspection programs, and the values of MRLs across different markets. The grant seeks to provide MRL information to assist exporters in accessing markets where MRLs are set lower than their domestic market or where MRLs are absent. By addressing missing or restrictive MRLs, producers can continue to use best practices and ensure the effectiveness of their products. This is particularly important for specialty crops, as many do not have established Codex Alimentarius (Codex) MRLs, and there are variations in registration assessments and data requirements across countries when establishing national MRLs. The grant has an award ceiling of $2,500,000 and expects to make one award. The funding opportunity is categorized under Agriculture and falls under the discretionary category. There is no cost sharing or matching requirement for this grant. The eligibility criteria and additional information can be found in Section C of the funding opportunity announcement. The closing date for applications is October 18, 2024. For further details and close date information, refer to Section D of the funding opportunity announcement. This funding opportunity falls under the category of Consumer Protection and is forecasted as a discretionary grant. The purpose of this grant is to advance efforts for a nationally integrated food safety system (IFSS) by supporting various programs such as Manufactured Food Regulatory Program Standards (MFRPS), dietary supplement safety and oversight programs, improved state compliance and enforcement infrastructure, and state Food Protection Task Force (FPTF) programs. The MFRPS aim to ensure that State manufactured food regulatory programs develop and maintain best practices for a high-quality regulatory program. These program standards are intended to enhance food safety by establishing a uniform basis for measuring and improving the performance of manufactured food regulatory programs in the United States. The grant is open to State, local, territorial, and tribal agencies, as well as non-profit training entities that collaborate with one or more institutions of higher education. The competition is limited to these national organizations/associations due to their responsibility and authority for food regulation in their respective jurisdictions. Awardees must have or be willing to enter into an information disclosure agreement with the FDA and will be required to have at least a commissioning certificate (or be willing to procure one) to facilitate information sharing between other States and the FDA.
