The National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) is offering a funding opportunity through the Blue-Sky Training Program for Grid Scale Energy Storage Systems, aimed at enhancing community safety and emergency response capabilities for utilities utilizing Energy Storage Systems (ESS). This program seeks to develop training programs, emergency response plans, and safety validation reports to prepare communities for potential failures of ESS due to cybersecurity threats or extreme weather events. With an estimated total funding of $4.125 million available for approximately 15 awards, eligible applicants include owners/operators of utility-scale ESS, educational institutions, nonprofit organizations, and state/local governments.
