The National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL) is issuing a Notice of Intent to release a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) number DE-FOA-0003343 focused on Undocumented Orphaned Well Research and Development. The objective of this FOA is to competitively solicit cost-shared research and development proposals aimed at enhancing technologies for the characterization and remediation of undocumented orphaned wells (UOWs), specifically targeting advanced sensors for methane emissions and efficient methods for well plugging and abandonment. This initiative aligns with the Administration's decarbonization goals and emphasizes the importance of minimizing environmental impacts associated with UOWs. Interested applicants should note that no applications are currently being accepted, and they are encouraged to register with Grants.gov and FedConnect for updates, with the anticipated FOA release expected in 2024.
