The Department of Commerce has posted the FY2024 Ruth D. Gates Restoration Innovation Grants opportunity. This grant aims to address the decline in the abundance and health of coral reefs due to climate change through innovative research. The grant will support projects that promote the long-term persistence of corals by incorporating resilient corals into restoration activities, enhancing coral survivorship, and improving restoration methods. The grant is open to nongovernmental organizations, research institutions, U.S. states, territories, local governments with authority over coral reefs, and Native entities with interests in a coral reef ecosystem. Federal agencies and employees of federal agencies are not eligible to apply. The grant has a cost-sharing or matching requirement. The award ceiling is $1,000,000, with an award floor of $100,000. It is expected that six awards will be granted. The close date for applications is February 14, 2024. For more information and to apply, contact Liz Fairey at Liz.Fairey@noaa.gov.
