The Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is offering a cooperative agreement opportunity titled "GM-24-02C: Northern Gulf of Mexico Monitoring for Protected Birds," aimed at enhancing the detection and classification of protected species in high-resolution aerial imagery. This five-year initiative will leverage advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence and machine learning, to develop sophisticated algorithms for analyzing aerial imagery collected by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), as well as create a web-based visualization tool for real-time updates on survey data. The project is significant for responsible environmental monitoring in areas of offshore energy development, benefiting stakeholders such as government agencies and the public. Interested applicants, specifically the University of Florida as the single-source cooperative agreement partner, should note that the estimated funding ranges from $300,000 to $350,000, with applications due by September 2, 2024.
