Description

The Geological Survey is offering a two-year cooperative agreement opportunity for State water resource agencies to participate in the Water Use Data and Research (WUDR) program. This funding opportunity aims to support State Water Resource agencies in the collection and reporting of water-use data for the WUDR program and to address the Department of Interior's Secretarial Priorities. The USGS WUDR program will provide financial assistance, through cooperative agreements with State Water Resource agencies, to improve the availability, quality, compatibility, and delivery of water-use data that is collected and/or estimated by States. The Act requires that these State Water Resource agencies make water-use or availability datasets resulting from this funding opportunity available in a machine-readable open format that the USGS can integrate with appropriate datasets maintained by the USGS. The WUDR cooperative agreements provide financial assistance to State Agencies to assemble various water-use information. The water-use information is needed by all water managers and the general public to develop a complete understanding of how water is used for different categories of use (such as irrigation or public supply). The WUDR program also supports the Department of the Interior's Secretarial priorities by enabling water managers, primarily State Water Resource Agencies, to monitor current conditions and be able to plan and avoid future water conflicts that may result from changes in the environment.

Cooperative Agreement for CESU-affiliated Partner with Rocky Mountain Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit
Active
Geological Survey
The US Geological Survey is offering a federal grant of up to $250,000 through a Cooperative Agreement to a CESU-affiliated partner. The goal is to fund research that develops tools to understand animal-habitat relationships within various ecosystems. The focus is on assessing resource selection and population demography of birds and ungulates in grassland, shrubland, and alpine environments. This project aims to provide valuable insights that will aid land managers and wildlife agencies in their decision-making processes regarding the management of wildlife populations. Eligible applicants must be part of the Rocky Mountains Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit (CESU) Program and have the expertise to undertake research and provide technical assistance. The scope of work for the successful applicant will involve: - Developing models and tools to study the relationships between wildlife populations and their habitats. - Conducting research to aid in understanding resource selection and demographic dynamics of the targeted wildlife species. - Collaborating with the USGS and other CESU partners in conducting ecosystem studies. Applicants should possess expertise in ecological research and be able to demonstrate a track record of successful project completion. Experience in wildlife population studies and knowledge of grassland, shrubland, and alpine ecosystems will be favored. The Cooperative Agreement will have a project duration of one year, with the potential for renewal based on performance and availability of funds. Applications must be submitted by 23 August 2024, at 5:00 p.m. ET. The USGS will evaluate applications based on the relevance and merit of the proposed research, the qualifications of the applicant, and their ability to meet the project objectives. For more information and clarification, interested parties can contact Faith Graves at fgraves@usgs.gov.
Cooperative Agreement for CESU-affiliated Partner with Rocky Mountain Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit

Geological Survey
The Geological Survey is offering a funding opportunity for a CESU partner to develop a tool that helps understand the changing dynamics of sagebrush vegetation. This tool will provide valuable information on the natural changes, disturbances, and restoration efforts related to sagebrush. It will also assist in making decisions regarding sagebrush planting, effective restoration, and management of invasive annual grasses to support sage-grouse conservation and population recovery. The funding opportunity is a Cooperative Agreement and does not require cost sharing or matching. The award ceiling for this opportunity is $225,000, and the close date for applications is July 29, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. ET. Eligible applicants must be a participating partner of the Rocky Mountains Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit (CESU) Program. For more information, contact FAITH GRAVES at fgraves@usgs.gov.

Cooperative Agreement Opportunity for Geophysical Surveys in Alaska – Earth Mapping Resources Initiative- FY2024
Active
Geological Survey
The Geological Survey, under the Cooperative Agreement Opportunity for Geophysical Surveys in Alaska - Earth Mapping Resources Initiative- FY2024, is offering a funding opportunity to facilitate the collection of geophysical data and associated data. This initiative aims to collect geophysical, geologic, geochemical, and topographic data in areas of critical mineral potential across the Nation. The advanced mapping of the Nation's subsurface geologic resources will also directly benefit our understanding of domestic resources of other economically valuable mineral and energy resources, groundwater resources and water security, geologic hazards, and infrastructure dependencies on subsurface geology. The funding will be in the form of a Cooperative Agreement, and the USGS is designated as the lead Federal agency for geologic map data. The Earth Mapping Resources Initiative is a collaborative approach to acquiring data for the Nation and is mandated by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. The close date for electronically submitted applications is 5:00 p.m., ET, on the listed application due date. For more information, contact Amber Brazil at abrazil@usgs.gov.

The Bureau of Reclamation has posted a grant opportunity titled "WaterSMART Cooperative Watershed Management Program Phase I for Fiscal Year 2023". This grant is in the category of Natural Resources and falls under the funding instrument type of Grant. The grant does not require any cost sharing or matching requirement. The objective of this grant is to invite various entities such as states, Indian Tribes, local and special districts, non-profit organizations, and Existing Watershed Groups to submit proposals for Phase I activities. These activities include developing a watershed group, completing watershed restoration planning activities, and designing watershed management projects. A watershed group, as defined in the Cooperative Watershed Management Act, is a grassroots, non-regulatory entity that addresses water availability and quality issues within the relevant watershed. It promotes the sustainable use of water resources, makes decisions on a consensus basis, and represents a diverse group of stakeholders. These stakeholders include hydroelectric producers, livestock grazing, timber production, land development, recreation or tourism, irrigated agriculture, the environment, municipal water supplies, private property owners, Federal, state and local governments, Tribes, and disadvantaged communities. The grant has a close date of September 3, 2024, and the award ceiling is $300,000, with an award floor of $10,000.
