Description

The Department of Commerce has posted a grant opportunity titled "Climate Program Office (CPO) Adaptation Sciences Program FY2024". This grant is in the category of Science and Technology and other Research and Development. The grant does not require cost sharing or matching. The eligible applicants for this grant are institutions of higher education, other nonprofits, commercial organizations, international and regional organizations, and state, local and Indian tribal governments. Federal agencies or institutions are not eligible to receive Federal assistance under this notice, but may be identified as partners in the proposals.

The purpose of this grant is to support the Adaptation Sciences (AdSci) program, which is an interdisciplinary research and engagement program housed in the NOAA Climate Program Office's (CPO's) Climate and Societal Interactions (CSI) Division. The AdSci program aims to advance the knowledge, methods, and frameworks needed to move society beyond incremental adaptation toward more widespread, connected, and transformative adaptive pathways and resilience strategies with clear economic, social, cultural, and environmental co-benefits. The program achieves this through a combination of dedicated partnerships that support capacity building and engagement activities, as well as competitive research awards designed to address key knowledge and information needs. The AdSci program supports work both within and outside of the United States.

The FY24 Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for the AdSci Program is soliciting applications for two competitions. The first competition is focused on evidence-building, evaluation, and learning approaches to support adaptation to a changing climate. The second competition is focused on developing a social science research agenda to support adaptation and resilience.

The grant has an award ceiling of $300,000 and an award floor of $150,000. It is expected that there will be a total of 7 awards given. The close date for applications is March 20, 2024, and the archive date is April 19, 2024.

For more information about the AdSci program, interested parties can visit the website at https://cpo.noaa.gov/AdSci. For specific questions about the grant application process, individuals can contact Lisa Vaughan, the AdSci Competition Manager, at Lisa.Vaughan@noaa.gov. DOC NOAA - ERA Production
The Ocean Exploration Fiscal Year 2025 Funding Opportunity, posted by DOC NOAA - ERA Production, is a grant opportunity for U.S.-based institutions of higher education, nonprofit organizations, U.S. state, tribal, territory, and local governments, for-profit organizations, and federal agencies. The grant aims to support ocean exploration-related projects under two themes: Ocean Exploration and Maritime Heritage. Under the Ocean Exploration theme, the grant seeks proposals that explore unknown or poorly known ocean areas, processes, or resources in waters deeper than 200 meters or in tropical mesophotic environments. Projects can involve mapping and characterizing ocean habitats, advancing ocean exploration through the use or development of novel technologies, and analyzing existing ocean exploration datasets or samples. The focus is on improving our understanding of the physical, chemical, and biological environments and processes in the deep oceanic water column and enhancing genetic libraries for species-level environmental DNA analysis. Under the Maritime Heritage theme, the grant encourages proposals that explore significant maritime heritage resources to enhance our understanding of the past and inform decisions about management and preservation. Projects can be conducted at any water depth and may involve conflict archaeology, incorporation of Indigenous knowledge, or wide-area searches in poorly mapped maritime heritage areas. The use of innovative technology and methods for quantitative assessment of targets is also welcomed. Applicants must complete and maintain registrations with SAM.gov, Grants.gov, and eRA Commons to be eligible for the grant. The registration process can take 4 to 6 weeks, so it is advised to start early. The deadline for pre-proposals is May 30, 2024, and the deadline for full proposals is October 3, 2024. The award ceiling is $1,000,000, and the award floor is $50,000. For more information and inquiries, contact NOAA Ocean Exploration at (202) 603-6844 or oer.nofo2025@noaa.gov.
