The DOT Federal Highway Administration has posted a grant opportunity titled "Active Transportation Infrastructure Investment Program". This program aims to improve the safety, efficiency, and reliability of active transportation networks and communities. It will also enhance connectivity between active transportation modes and public transportation, improve the resiliency of active transportation infrastructure, and protect the environment. The program will distribute up to $44,550,000 for two categories of grants: Planning and Design Grants and Construction Grants. Eligible organizations, such as local or regional governmental organizations, multicounty special districts, states, multistate groups of governments, or Indian tribes, can create plans or implement active transportation networks that connect destinations within or between communities. They can also create plans or implement an active transportation spine connecting two or more communities, metropolitan regions, or states. Additionally, eligible organizations can integrate active transportation facilities with transit services to improve access to public transportation. The grant opportunity requires cost sharing or matching and falls under the category of "Other" funding activity. The close date for applications is June 17, 2024.
