The U.S. Geological Survey is offering a cooperative agreement opportunity for partners affiliated with the Californian Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit (CESU) to develop a software-defined ground-penetrating radar (GPR) platform utilizing small, uncrewed aircraft systems (sUAS) to assess snowpack metrics. The objective of this research is to enhance previous studies aimed at real-time avalanche risk assessment through a low-cost, rapid, and high-resolution sUAS platform, which will improve safety, reduce operational costs, and enhance monitoring of complex snowpack conditions. This funding opportunity, with an award ceiling of $150,500 and no matching requirement, is open to eligible CESU partners, and applications must be submitted electronically by 5:00 p.m. ET on March 25, 2024.
