    AGENCY FOR INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT is seeking support for the Empower Nigeria program, which aims to increase the availability of and access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern electricity services in Nigeria. The program will address the challenges of low reliability and quality of electricity supply, high greenhouse gas emissions, and lack of affordable electricity. The program will focus on improving the financial sustainability and flow of energy through the national electricity grid, expanding the off-grid sector, enhancing the transmission infrastructure, and increasing the utilization of existing grid-connected generating assets. The program will also provide technical assistance, capacity strengthening, and investment mobilization to various energy sector institutions. The preliminary budget for the program is $90 million over five years. The program will be implemented through multiple awards, including acquisition and assistance awards. The performance period is planned for five years from 2024 to 2029. The geographic focus of the program is Nigeria. The program aims to achieve three development objectives: ending energy poverty, accelerating a carbon-free future, and bolstering private sector investment and innovation in the energy sector. USAID/Power Africa is considering awarding one or multiple awards directly to local prime partners as part of its localization efforts.
