The Department of Defense, through the Army Medical Research Acquisition Activity, is planning to negotiate a sole source contract with the University of Washington for an alcohol intervention program aimed at addressing alcohol misuse among active-duty military personnel. This initiative is part of the Army’s People First Strategy, which seeks to enhance psychological health and overall readiness by creating healthier environments to mitigate harmful behaviors, including suicide and sexual assault, in light of rising heavy drinking rates among military personnel. The project will focus on developing and assessing a cost-effective and scalable intervention utilizing Personalized Normative Feedback (PNF) to change perceptions about alcohol consumption, ultimately improving medical readiness and mental health.
