The Department of Defense, through the Naval Medical Research Unit Dayton, is seeking a sole-source contract with Siemens Industry, Inc. for the repair and refurbishment of essential components of the Disorientation Research Device (DRD). This procurement is necessitated by the unique nature of the DRD and the specialized expertise of Siemens, the only manufacturer capable of providing the required components due to proprietary engineering and intellectual property rights. The acquisition is critical for maintaining the functionality of vital medical research equipment, and while it will be posted on a government entry point, no future competition is anticipated unless new sources emerge.
