Special Notice NATIONAL AERONAUTICS AND SPACE ADMINISTRATION is soliciting inquiries from companies interested in obtaining license rights to commercialize, manufacture, and market a system for flight control of extremely fast (hypersonic) aircraft. The system, developed by researchers at NASA's Langley Research Center, is designed for guidance, navigation, and control of aircraft or spacecraft moving at hypersonic speeds in ionizing atmospheres. It operates based on the principles of magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) and uses energy harvested from the ionized flow during flight to power an electromagnet and generate large Lorentz forces for steering and control. The system offers a simpler and more efficient method for controlling hypersonic craft compared to conventional methods. Interested parties can submit a license application through NASA's Automated Technology Licensing Application System (ATLAS). No follow-on procurement is expected from this notice.
