The Department of Defense, through the U.S. Army Medical Research Acquisition Activity, intends to award a sole source contract to KBR Wyle Services, LLC for the Phase II study titled “Medical Evacuation During Sustained Acceleration (MEDUSA): Validating Critical Care During Simulated Point-to-Point Spaceflight.” This study aims to assess the impacts of sustained acceleration on hemodynamics using a swine model, requiring the unique capabilities of KBR's large centrifuge, which is the only one in the U.S. suitable for such advanced animal research. The project is critical for developing Department of Defense capabilities for patient transport using commercial spacecraft and is set to run from August 2024 to September 2025, with funding from FY 2023-2024 RDT&E allocations. Interested parties must submit their capabilities in writing to the primary contact, James Clingan, at james.b.clingan.civ@health.mil by 10:00 AM EST on June 7, 2024.
