The National Institutes of Health (NIH), Clinical Center, has issued a Notice of Intent to award a sole source contract to Peak Scientific, Inc. for preventative maintenance services on their PEAK Genius XE SCI gas generators. This contract is for a one-year base period with three option years. Peak Scientific, Inc. is identified as the sole manufacturer and provider of support, service, and contractual maintenance for the Genius XE SCI gas generator model in the United States. The preventative maintenance service is deemed critical for the proper and continuous operation of the mass spectrometer used for patient care testing, ensuring timely results. The NIH asserts that Peak Scientific engineers are uniquely trained and have proprietary tools for their equipment, and a service contract guarantees priority onsite service, which is more cost-effective than individual repairs and prevents delays in patient care. This acquisition is being conducted under Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Part 13 – Simplified Acquisition Procedures, Subpart 13.106-1(b)(1), which allows for soliciting from a single source when only one is reasonably available. Comments on this notice are due by January 14, 2026.
