Miniaturization, Modulation, and Chip Scaling of Photonic Technologies
SBIR Opportunity Analysis
The Missile Defense Agency is seeking Small Business Innovation Research proposals to advance and adopt chip-scale photonic and quantum technologies for integration into the Missile Defense System. Selected contractors will develop common building block technologies and low size, weight, and power transceivers to augment existing radar and communication systems. The project is structured across three phases, beginning with a Phase I feasibility evaluation and roadmap, followed by Phase II prototype testing in a realistic environment, and concluding with Phase III dual-use demonstration on operational platforms. Because the technology is restricted under ITAR and EAR regulations, strict foreign national restrictions apply, and the projected Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification requirement for this topic is Level 1. The opportunity is currently in a pre-release phase, with the official solicitation opening on July 22, 2026, and applications due by August 19, 2026.
