High-speed Photon-Number-Resolution Quanta Imaging Sensor Array
STTR Opportunity Analysis
The Department of the Navy is seeking proposals under the STTR program to develop a high-speed, room-temperature Photon-Number-Resolution quanta imaging sensor array that remains scalable to megapixel sizes. The required work involves designing, simulating, and fabricating a monochromatic sensor with a pixel-level photon counting rate of at least 120 MHz, a photon number resolution of 16 or greater, and an external quantum efficiency of at least 60% between 450 and 550 nanometers. Technical requirements include supporting a frame rate of 120 MHz or higher in 10-microsecond bursts, integrated on-chip hardware-level compression for up to 500 burst sequences, and an operating temperature range of -40 to +45 degrees Celsius. This ITAR-restricted topic accepts both Phase I and Direct-to-Phase II proposals, with the application submission deadline set for August 19, 2026.
