High-speed Photon-Number-Resolution Quanta Imaging Sensor Array
STTR Opportunity Analysis
The Department of the Navy, under the Department of Defense SBIR/STTR program, is seeking proposals to develop and demonstrate a high-speed, room-temperature Photon-Number-Resolution quanta imaging sensor array. Selected contractors must design and simulate a CMOS-compatible monochromatic sensor with a pixel-level photon counting rate of at least 120 MHz, a photon number resolution of 16 or greater, and hardware-level compression supporting 10-microsecond bursts. Technical requirements include an external quantum efficiency of at least 60 percent between 450 and 550 nanometers and operating capability between -40 and +45 degrees Celsius to support dual-use applications like laser communications and LiDAR. Proposals for Phase I or Direct-to-Phase II must be submitted between July 22, 2026, and August 19, 2026, and questions may be directed to technical points of contact Stephen Potashnik and Brandon Cochenour.
