High-speed nanophotonic spatial light modulators
SBIR Opportunity Analysis
The Department of the Air Force is seeking proposals under the SBIR program to develop a nanophotonic-enabled spatial light modulator (SLM) array. The selected contractor must design a platform technology capable of both amplitude and phase modulation speeds exceeding 1 Gbps to advance technologies like LiDAR, free-space laser communications, and quantum sensing. This Direct-to-Phase II topic requires applicants to submit feasibility documentation of their simulation and characterization capabilities, with the chosen performer tasked to deliver at least five devices and a fully integrated prototype system to the Air Force Research Laboratory. Proposals must be submitted between the opening date of July 22, 2026, and the closing deadline of August 19, 2026.
