High-speed nanophotonic spatial light modulators
SBIR Opportunity Analysis
The Department of Defense, through the Air Force Research Laboratory, is seeking proposals to develop high-speed, nanophotonic-enabled spatial light modulator arrays. Selected contractors will be required to design and demonstrate an integrated platform technology capable of both amplitude and phase modulation at speeds exceeding 1 Gbps. This Direct-to-Phase II effort requires applicants to provide feasibility documentation of existing numerical simulation and characterization capabilities, with the project focusing on near-infrared and midwave-infrared use cases for classical and quantum sensing and imaging. Successful performers must deliver, install, and demonstrate a prototype system comprising custom hardware, software, source code, and at least five devices at the Air Force Research Laboratory. Proposals must be submitted during the application window opening on July 22, 2026, and closing on August 19, 2026.
