Collaborative Aided Target Recognition Using Next-Generation Foundation Models for Multi-Domain Unmanned Systems
STTR Opportunity Analysis
The Department of Defense is seeking proposals under STTR solicitation 26.TZ for topic OSW26TZ04-NV001 to develop and demonstrate a collaborative Aided Target Recognition capability for heterogeneous, multi-domain unmanned systems. Awardees must leverage next-generation pre-trained foundation models, such as Vision-Language Models and modern State-Space Models, to achieve predictive target disambiguation and multi-modal sensor fusion across unmanned aerial, ground, and surface vehicles. Phase I focuses on conceptual design and feasibility demonstrations, while Phase II requires a fully functional software prototype integrated across at least three heterogeneous platforms to meet strict latency, classification accuracy, and communication bandwidth metrics. The technology is subject to ITAR/EAR export control laws and requires a projected Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification of Level 2 (Self). Applications must be submitted through the Department of Defense SBIR/STTR portal by August 19, 2026, at 4:00 PM Eastern Time.
