Expeditionary Closed and Air-Independent Power and Energy (ExCAIPE)
SBIR Opportunity Analysis
The Department of Defense, through the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, is seeking Direct to Phase II proposals for the Expeditionary Closed and Air-Independent Power and Energy program. Performers will design and develop electrically rechargeable, air-independent, high-energy-density and high-power-density batteries that operate without an external air source. Proposals must show a clear pathway to achieving a Technology Readiness Level of 5-6 by month 18, utilizing preliminary data and mass balance calculations to prove the technology can achieve specific energy targets of over 1 kilowatt-hour per kilogram at the cell level. This Direct to Phase II effort is structured as an 18-month Base Phase and an 18-month Option Phase, with proposals due by July 22, 2026.
