Automatic Cable Tester
STTR Opportunity Analysis
The Navy, under a DOD STTR opportunity, is seeking development of an automatic cable tester to reduce the time required to test shipboard cabling during DDG 51 class ship modernizations. The effort calls for a low-cost, user-friendly system that can test continuity, resistance, isolation, and fiber impedance across copper, RF, and fiber optic cables, while generating quality assurance reports. The solution should be portable enough for one sailor to move through tight ship spaces, work with existing standards, minimize test connectors, and use software that is Microsoft-based or easily convertible to Excel; Phase I focuses on concept development and feasibility, Phase II on prototype delivery with a complete connector kit, and Phase III on transition support. The solicitation is open with proposals due June 3, 2026 at 16:00 UTC under solicitation number 26.TZ and topic number DON26TZ01-NV005.
