xTech|Phantum Competition

The U.S. Army's xTech|Phantum competition seeks innovative quantum sensor and photonics solutions from small businesses. The competition, in partnership with the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Acquisition, Logistics and Technology (ASA(ALT)) and the U.S. Army Directorate for Strategy & Transformation (DAMI-ST), aims to integrate non-traditional innovators into the Department of War's (DoW) Science and Technology (S&T) ecosystem. Participants will compete for prize money and the opportunity to submit a Phase I Army Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) proposal. The competition focuses on four key areas: Quantum Sensors and Quantum Clocks for Position, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) to supplement GPS; Quantum Radio Frequency Sensors for wider spectrum access and sensitive reception; Quantum Electromagnetic Sensors for detecting low-power, non-RF electromagnetic fields and bioelectric activity; and Photonics for secure, high-speed communication and data processing. The deadline for white paper submissions is May 6, 2026. Only winners of the xTech|Phantum competition will be eligible to submit a Phase I SBIR proposal, with a cost limit of $300,000 and a 6-month performance period. Subsequent phases involve prototype development, soldier evaluation, and commercialization plans.
