Colloidal Nanocrystals for Improved Mid-Wave Infrared Imaging
STTR Opportunity Analysis
The U.S. Navy is seeking an STTR effort to develop colloidal nanocrystal photo-diode technology for improved mid-wave infrared imaging on Si/SiO2 readout integrated circuits. The work calls for a new or improved colloidal nanocrystal-based detector structure, with Phase I focused on concept development and feasibility and Phase II on prototype small-scale MWIR photodetectors directly grown on Si/SiO2 substrates. Key requirements include improved intrinsic PLQY across the full 3–5 micron band, compatibility with electrical readout, scalable uniform deposition, and demonstrated suitability for effective pixel sizes no larger than 20 microns with a feasible path to 5 micron pixels. The opportunity is pre-release under solicitation DON26TZ02-NV021, opens May 27, 2026, and closes June 24, 2026 at 4:00 PM UTC.
