Rapid Evaluation of low Back and neck impairment to Advance Readiness
SBIR Opportunity Analysis
The Department of the Air Force’s SBIR program is seeking a Direct-to-Phase-II solution for Rapid Evaluation of low back and neck impairment to improve readiness and patient outcomes across Air Force and DoD settings. The effort calls for a quantitative, evidence-based software and hardware tool that can rapidly assess spine impairment using sensor-based data collection, automated processing, and biopsychosocial measures. The prototype must be portable, easy for non-expert users, interoperable with Air Force IT, support online and offline operation, and be designed for future HIPAA, EHR, and IL-5 cybersecurity integration while achieving strong validation targets for measurement accuracy, classification performance, and reliability. Deliverables include a production-ready prototype, test reports, FDA communications and verification/validation evidence, technical documentation, training tools, and a transition plan, with applications due June 24, 2026.
