Carbon Dioxide Modular Refrigeration System

The Department of Defense, specifically the Navy, is seeking innovative solutions for a non-hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) shipboard modular refrigeration system (MRS) utilizing carbon dioxide (CO2/R-744) as the refrigerant. The objective is to develop a compact 0.75 refrigeration tons MRS that can operate effectively in shipboard environments, addressing the challenges posed by the phase-down of hydrofluorocarbons due to their high global warming potential. This initiative is critical for maintaining the storage of perishable foods on naval vessels while adhering to environmental regulations. The solicitation is currently in the pre-release phase, with an open date set for January 8, 2025, and a close date of February 5, 2025.
