Mixed Reality Point Cloud Manipulation

The Department of Defense, specifically the Navy, is seeking innovative solutions through the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program to enhance the visualization and manipulation of 3-D point cloud models generated by LiDAR and photogrammetry for ship inspections and modernization efforts. The objective is to develop a mixed reality capability that allows engineers and technicians to perform virtual ship checks, thereby improving design, installation, and modernization processes to deliver ships on time and at lower costs. This initiative is crucial for enhancing collaboration among naval architects, engineers, and technicians, enabling them to visualize and annotate 3-D models in a more immersive environment, which will lead to better maintenance planning and issue resolution.
