High-speed Photon-Number-Resolution Quanta Imaging Sensor Array
SBIR Opportunity Analysis
The Department of Defense, through the Department of the Navy SBIR program, is seeking proposals to develop a room-temperature, High-speed Photon-Number-Resolution Quanta Imaging Sensor Array. Awardees must design and demonstrate a scalable, megapixel-class array that operates at room temperature to overcome high-rate photon pileup data loss without requiring cryogenic cooling. Technical requirements include a pixel-level photon counting rate of at least 120 MHz, a photon number resolution of at least 16, and on-chip hardware-level accumulation compression operating between negative 40 and positive 45 degrees Celsius. The technology is restricted under ITAR/EAR export controls, requires a Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification Level 1, and welcomes both Phase I and Direct to Phase II proposals before the August 19, 2026 deadline.
