High-Gain Directional Low-Frequency Sonobuoy Array
SBIR Opportunity Analysis
The U.S. Navy is seeking an SBIR solution to develop a high-gain, low-frequency directional sonobuoy array for improved anti-submarine warfare detection. The work centers on a vector-sensor vertical line array in an A-size sonobuoy form factor, with Phase I focused on modeling, sensor and array design, preliminary architecture, and proof-of-concept simulation, and Phase II focused on prototype fabrication and testing. Key requirements include operation below 500 Hz, deep-water deployment to 1,000 feet, an 8-hour life, at least 17 dB array gain, 96 dB dynamic range, compatibility with existing sonobuoy communications and processing platforms, and STANAG 4718 compliance, with potential classified work in later phases.
