Description

The Department of Defense (DoD) is seeking proposals for the topic "AR for Equipment Maintenance" as part of the SBIR 23.3 BAA. The objective of this topic is to implement augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) technology to improve efficiency and reduce errors in equipment maintenance. Currently, technicians rely on conventional maintenance resources, which can be time-consuming and prone to errors. By leveraging AR and VR technology, organizations can improve equipment uptime, reduce maintenance costs, increase safety and reliability, and enhance the efficiency and accuracy of equipment maintenance.

The project will involve three phases. In Phase I, applicants are expected to demonstrate feasibility by understanding the maintenance groups' needs and potential use cases for AR in equipment maintenance. In Phase II, a small-scale pilot project will be conducted to test the effectiveness of the AR technology and identify any issues. In Phase III, the AR technology will be rolled out across the organization, including scaling up the pilot project, providing training to technicians, and integrating the technology with existing systems and processes.

The project duration and funding specifics are not mentioned in the document. For more information and to submit a proposal, interested parties can visit the DoD SBIR 23.3 BAA page on grants.gov (https://www.sbir.gov/node/2447979).

DOD SBIR 24.4 Annual - Off the Visor Heads Up Display (HUD)
Active
Department of Defense
The Department of Defense (DOD) is seeking proposals for the topic "Off the Visor Heads Up Display (HUD)" as part of its SBIR program. The objective of this topic is to develop available daylight readable off-the-visor display solutions for use in mixed reality (MR) head mounted display (HMD) systems. The goal is to design, produce, deliver, and characterize the most optimal off-the-visor solution for future soldier vision products. The technology should provide increased display-image performance, allowing the Warfighter to comfortably view sensor and computer-generated information while maintaining situational awareness on the battlefield. The technology should also offer ergonomic benefits such as lower weight and improved center of gravity. The project will involve research and definition of three viable see-through vision technology configurations in Phase I, followed by the production of a single prototype off-the-visor HUD in Phase II. The Phase II prototype should have the ability to display static imagery or video content suitable for daytime use and support at least a 30-degree field of view. The potential dual-use applications of this technology include workforce and automotive industries, manufacturing, automotive applications, environmental monitoring, healthcare, and immersive entertainment. The project duration is not specified, and funding specifics can be found on the grants.gov website. For more information, visit the SBIR topic link: [link].
DOD SBIR 24.4 Annual - AI-Enhanced TPS Development and Sustainment
Active
Department of Defense
The Department of Defense (DOD) is seeking proposals for the topic of "AI-Enhanced TPS Development and Sustainment" as part of their SBIR program. The objective of this project is to develop an organic capability for field-level maintenance and repair of weapon system electronics, reducing supply chain latency and screening electronic components for No Evidence of Failure (NEOF) at the source. The goal is to achieve faster weapon system repairs, shorter component Turn-Around-Times (TAT), high equipment Operational Availability (Ao), and high unit readiness at lower life-cycle costs. The project will apply Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) to improve the development, operation, and sustainment of Test Program Sets (TPS) for electronic components of weapon systems. Phase I proposals are accepted with a budget of up to $250,000 for a 6-month period of performance. Phase II will involve TPS hardware and software prototype development, critical design, test, integration, verification, validation, and acceptance. Phase III will focus on dual-use applications such as sensor integration in mobile platforms with AI-assisted guided diagnostics. The project has potential applications across all Army commodities, ground, air, missile, and C5ISR. The solicitation is open until March 31, 2025.
