Secure Tasking of Commercial Assets
SBIR Opportunity Analysis
The Department of the Navy is seeking an SBIR solution to securely task commercial satellites for Maritime Targeting Cell-Afloat/Expeditionary missions that require protected intercommunication between government and commercial systems. The work calls for a concept and then a prototype secure satellite tasking capability, including secure communication channels, end-to-end encryption, authentication and authorization, secure data transfer, and integration with representative commercial tasking interfaces. The effort places emphasis on meeting CUI/IL-5 and Secret/IL-6 security needs, evaluating the approach in a simulated environment against NIST standards, and reducing tasking latency, with Phase II work likely to become classified and requiring a U.S.-owned and operated contractor able to maintain secret-level facility and personnel clearances. The opportunity is pre-release under DON26BZ03-NV062, with release scheduled for June 3, 2026, opening on June 24, 2026, and applications due July 22, 2026 at 4:00 PM ET.
