SBIR Opportunity Analysis
The Department of the Navy is seeking SBIR proposals to modernize the ammunition handling and control systems of the MK 34 Gun Weapon System. Awardees will develop an electro-mechanical capability for the sustained tactical loading and unloading of 5-inch/54 caliber naval ammunition to replace obsolete electro-hydraulic power technology. Proposed solutions must fit the MK 45 Gun System size, weight, and power profile with no ship modifications, utilize Model-Based Engineering design principles, and achieve an operational availability of 0.9 or greater with a sustained loading rate exceeding 12 rounds per minute. Due to the potential for classified work in Phase II, the contractor must be U.S. owned and operated with no foreign influence and have the ability to acquire and maintain a secret level facility and personnel security clearances.
