Lightweight High Thrust Propulsion Technology for Interceptors

The Department of Defense, through the Missile Defense Agency (MDA), is seeking innovative propulsion system technologies for interceptors under the SBIR program, specifically focusing on lightweight high thrust propulsion systems. The objective is to develop technologies that enhance the performance of axial systems and divert and attitude control systems (DACS), capable of enduring 20 years of ground deployment or 5 years in low Earth orbit, with a strong emphasis on improving hydrazine-based systems or introducing disruptive new technologies. Proposals must demonstrate technical feasibility and a clear path to commercialization, with a focus on achieving a thrust-to-weight ratio of at least 8 for axial thrust and 5 for divert thrust, while operating effectively in temperatures ranging from -20°C to 60°C.
