The Department of Defense (DoD) is seeking proposals for the development of an Optimized Vertical Axis Wind Turbine (VAWT) aimed at enhancing power generation capabilities in remote locations lacking grid access. The objective is to design a VAWT that overcomes the limitations of existing models, particularly in terms of power output, by utilizing advanced machine learning (ML) optimization methods and fluid-structure interaction simulations. This initiative is significant for military applications, as it promises a lightweight, portable, and easy-to-install power generation solution that can operate effectively in various environmental conditions. Phase I proposals are invited with a funding limit of $180,000 for a six-month performance period, while Phase II will provide up to $1.8 million for prototype development and testing. Interested parties should prepare to submit their proposals by June 25, 2025, following the solicitation's opening on May 28, 2025.
