Innovative Space-based Multicolor Sensors

The Department of Defense, through the Missile Defense Agency (MDA), is seeking innovative solutions for the development of space-based multicolor sensors aimed at detecting and tracking small, dim, high-speed maneuvering targets, such as hypersonic vehicles. The objective is to create a sensor suite that utilizes optimized configurations, including infrared (IR) and ultraviolet (UV) sensing technologies, to enhance detection capabilities in challenging conditions where traditional IR sensors may fail. This initiative is critical for advancing space-based surveillance and defense systems, particularly in the context of emerging threats. Proposals for Phase II are due by February 5, 2025, with the opportunity expected to be released on January 8, 2025.
