Li-ion 6T Battery Focused Open Topic
SBIR Opportunity Analysis
The Department of the Army is seeking Phase I SBIR small business innovations for MIL-PRF-32565 Li-ion 6T batteries to address operational needs tied to military fuel reduction, silent-watch, and improved energy density. The topic covers power beaming or wireless charging for aggregated battery storage, thermal runaway and fire-mitigating materials that can be inserted into the battery case, automated maintenance and diagnostic tools, and compact external devices that can combine diverse batteries for use above 28 VDC, with minimum 48 VDC bus support. This is a Phase I submission-only opportunity focused on a feasibility study, with proposals expected to show technical and commercial practicality while maintaining MIL-PRF-32565 performance requirements. The Army will accept proposals for up to $250,000 over a 6-month period of performance, with submissions opening on April 15, 2026 and due by May 13, 2026 at 4:00 PM.
