Extending the Shelf-Life of Rapid-Setting Cement for Military Applications

The Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) is seeking innovative solutions to extend the shelf-life of rapid-setting cement for military applications, specifically targeting a lifespan of 5 to 7 years. The initiative aims to address the challenges posed by the prehydration of calcium sulfoaluminate (CSA) clinker, which significantly reduces the hydraulic reactivity and performance of rapid-strength cement, particularly in humid environments. This project is crucial for military operations, including Airport Damage Repair (ADR), where reliable and long-lasting materials are essential. Interested small businesses with relevant experience in cement manufacturing and compliance with ITAR regulations are encouraged to submit proposals, with Phase I funding capped at $100,000 for a 12-month duration and Phase II funding up to $1 million for 24 months. The solicitation will open on April 23, 2025, and proposals are due by May 21, 2025.
