Autonomous and Adaptive Cold Spray Repair

The Department of Defense, specifically the United States Air Force (USAF), is seeking proposals for the development of an autonomous and adaptive cold spray (CS) repair technology aimed at enhancing the repair processes for damaged panel fastener holes. The objective is to demonstrate a robotic arm capable of identifying damaged areas, pre-machining holes, applying cold spray materials, and post-machining to restore dimensions, thereby reducing the time and costs associated with current robotic path-planning methods. This technology is critical for improving the maintenance and sustainability of military aircraft, allowing for efficient repairs instead of frequent part replacements.
